Eugene “Gene” D. Dougherty, age 93, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2018 surrounded by his family. Gene was born and raised in Crum Lynne, PA, moved to Media, PA, and was currently a resident of Upper Chichester, PA. Gene was a graduate of Ridley High School. Gene was a family man who enjoyed spending time with his many nieces and nephews. He loved boxing, the Phillies, Eagles, and Notre Dame. Gene proudly served his country during WWII as a sailor for the United States Navy, serving on the USS Kimberly. He was employed by the Media Court House as a landscaper, and before that he worked for Baldwin as a machinist.
He was the son of the late Owen and Mary Dougherty, and brother of the late Mary Sacharok-Kelly and the late Betty Sowa.
SURVIVORS: nieces and nephews: Elizabeth Lavin, John Sacharok (Marjorie), Susan Sowa, and Maryann Baldassarre (Frank); great nieces and nephews: Frank, Michael, John, Austin, and Jackie; Margaret and Natasha; great great nieces and nephews: Frankie, Maddie, and Bryn.
VISITATION: Tuesday, April 17th, from 10:00-10:45 am at St. Mary Magdalen Church, 2400 N. Providence Rd., Media, PA 19063. FUNERAL MASS: Tuesday, April 17th, at 11:00 am at St. Mary Magdalen Church. BURIAL: Immaculate Heart of Mary Cemetery, Linwood, PA. In Lieu of Flowers: Donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, 1120 G Street NW, Washington, DC 20005 or at www.woundedwarriorproject.org.
